Now, no amputation to cure breast Cancers

Panaji: A Goa-based doctor has invented a
technology that can save women from amputating their
Cancer-infested breasts.

"The treatment, known as the Targeted Intraoperative
Radiotherapy (TARGIT), can cure the fatal diseas in just 25
minutes," Dr Jayant Vaidya, who is currently placed in UK,
said.

TARGIT treats the tumour by delivering radiotherapy
within the breast. The patient can go home the same day the
surgery is conducted, he said.

Vaidya, who began his research during his stint at
Tata Memorial hospital in Mumbai, later perceived it in
University College at London.

Vaidya has also worked on Intrabeam machine used for
brain treatment. "The machine was developed for application on
breast in 1996-98," he said.
