Melbourne: A new study has revealed that one out of every six mobile phones carry fecal matter, as owners don’t wash their hands properly and thus give way to the potentially nasty E. coli bacteria to enter the handset.
The research conducted by London’s School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine together with the University of London shows that we need to extra cautious and take better care in the bathroom to prevent this.
Although 95 percent of the participants in the study claimed that they wash their hands, yet 9 out of 10 phones and 8 out of 10 pairs of hands were observed to have been carrying the bacteria.
The ratio of phones - 1 in 6 - carrying E. coli matched the ratio of dirty hands carrying the matter.
“The mobile phone is a lovely area for some of the bacteria that we actually started to grow,” News.com.au quoted Dr Ron Cutler from the study as saying.
