Parenting tips: Famous celebrity parents share their best baby advice

Here are some parenting tips from celebrities who offer some pearls of wisdom on how to raise kids.

Parents might feel like they’re traversing an ever-changing landscape of parenting issues, with modern problems like cyber-bullying and rising celebrity culture providing new challenges. But while the world evolves at a rapid rate, the best parenting advice stands the test of time. On June 23, 2014, Reuters published an article on US President Barack Obama's parenting tips.

"You give them unconditional love, and then you give them some structure and some rules, and they usually turn out really, really well," Obama said in a CNN interview. Obama said he and his wife Michelle were big believers in giving their daughters Malia, now 16, and Sasha, 13, chores. "As soon as they can understand words, you start giving them some assignments," he said in the interview.

"Bath. Eat your peas, pick up the toys off the floor. By the time they're 16, they turn out pretty good, although they don't always give you as much time with them as you want," he said.

Here are some parenting tips from celebrities who offer some pearls of wisdom on how to raise kids. After all, it doesn’t matter how much money or how many resources you have, kids still want their parents. We are all, no matter who we are, juggling life as a parent, be it through work, caring for relatives, running a home, volunteering, or just trying to make ends meet.

Angelina Jolie
"Children should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they wish without anybody judging them because it is an important part of their growth.”

Julia Roberts
“I try to call my mother, Betty, with more regularity because I think, What if Hazel didn’t call me for two weeks? I’m able to see her mothering now from a different vantage point.”

Michael J Fox
“Always be available to your kids,” Michael advised. “Because if you say, ‘Give me five minutes, give me ten minutes,’ it’ll be 15, it’ll be 20. And then when you get there, the shine will have worn off whatever it is they wanted to share with you. I’ve never gotten up to see something one of my kids wanted to show me and not been rewarded.”

Hillary Rodham Clinton
"When my daughter was younger, I would say, Chelsea, you’ve never been a baby before, and I’ve never been a mother before, and we’re just going to have to help each other get through this.”

Salma Hayek
“When Valentina was not even 1 month old, my aunt [gave me the best advice]: ‘Put her to sleep yourself every night. Sing to her and cradle her in your arms and sit by her side—every night. Because one day you won’t be able to, and it’s going to happen really fast.”
