Rain mars walkathon on World Population Day

The constant downpour on Saturday morning marred the walkathon held by the health ministry to mark the World Population Day in Delhi.

New Delhi: The constant downpour on Saturday morning marred the walkathon held by the health ministry to mark the World Population Day in Delhi.

India's health minister JP Nadda flagged off the walkathon, but the event had soon to be wound up due to the rain.

"The event could not be continued as most of the participants returned home," Manisha Verma, Information officer at the health ministry, told IANS.

At least 100 people including school children and college students, attired in white t-shirts, who had gathered at the India gate had to return.

The theme of the event was 'population stabilisation'. Apart from the health minister India's Ayush Minister Sripad Yesso Naik and several other senior ministry officials were also present in the event.
