Kochi: In line with the state government's 'Clean Campus, Safe Campus' initiative, the Toc-H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) at nearby Arakkunnam has launched a mission to prevent the use of drugs and tobacco products among students and is taking measures to help them overcome any addiction.
The 'Clean Campus, Safe Campus' initiative of the state government is aimed at making the campuses free of trafficking and consumption of drugs and other tobacco products.
The institution has formed squads comprising staff and students to check the use of tobacco products and drugs on campus, in the hostel and other places where students stay in groups, a press release said.
The squads will work in tandem with the local police for the success of the mission.
According to TIST Principal Dr D. Vincent H Wilson, it is during the adolescence that students tend to get attracted to tobacco products.
?We have decided to conduct regular sensitisation classes for students on the ill effects of tobacco. The groups will conduct regular checks at hostels and lodges where the students stay. We are launching this mission as part of a bold attempt to fight tobacco and drug use, he added.
