Ultramodern ambulance to treat dental trauma patients

New Delhi: The Delhi government will launch an ultramodern ambulance equipped with a mini-ICU to provide on the spot treatment to dental trauma patients during accidents.

"This ambulance is a kind of mini-ICU which will provide 24x7 medical emergency services including dental and oral maxillofacial surgeries during accident and trauma cases. It is equipped with a GPS and radio and mobile system," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said.

She was inaugurating a five-day `Health Utsav` at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences here.

"This ultramodern ambulance will be equipped with the latest air conditioned, advanced life support equipments including a defibrillator, transport ventilator, transport monitor, pneumatic splints, spine boards and other essential life saving equipment and drugs for dental and oral maxillofacial surgeries and other surgeries," Mahesh Verma, principal, MAIDS said.

MAIDS is the first dental college to be equipped with the new ambulance.

Concerned over the growing incidence of dental diseases among school kids, Dikshit suggested schools should be encouraged to initiate child smile programme aiming to prevent tooth decay in youngsters thorough early intervention.

She said over 80 per cent of Delhi`s population is suffering various dental ailments including periodontal advanced gum disease cavities, self inflicted wear and traumatic injuries to teeth and most most of them are preventable with early education.
