Centre to set up `National Medicinal Plants`: Azad
Patna: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister
Gulam Nabi Azad today said that medicinal plants at a cost of
Rs 650 crore would be established across the country under
the National Ayurveda Mission.
The medicinal plants would be established in an area of
80,000 hectares having processing, reserach and laboratory
facilities, the minister told the concluding session of
+Arogya+ organised by +Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani,
Siddha & Homeopathy+ (AYUSH) in the ministry of Health and
Family welfare with mandate to facilitate development and
growth of Ayurveda.

Azad said that the Centre had made available the
requisite fund ( Rs 650 crore) for setting up the units and
the benefits would accrue to states like Bihar.

Over 75 per cent of the people in China used herbs for
their treatement, Azad said.
He said that Patna Ayurvedic College would be upgraded and
accorded the status of National Institute of Research and the
Patna Regional Research Centre of Unani medicines would be
turned into a model institute.

He said that Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy mode of
treatment should be extended to villages as they were the
cheapest form of treatment.

There would be no scarcity of ayurvedic medicines once the
medicinal plant with laboratory was established, Azad said.
