New Delhi: Concerned over the spurt in mosquito-borne diseases, Union Health Ministry is planning to introduce medicated mosquito nets to check the menace.
"While the fall out of vector-borne diseases can be difficult to handle, control and prevention, in contrast, is easy. I would say prevention is completely a function of awareness," Chandrakant S Pandav, HOD, Centre for Community Medicine, AIIMS, said. Director of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme A C Dharliwal said, "People need to be extra cautious during monsoon season."It is also of prime importance that people are aware of all aspects of these diseases. Preventing vector-borne diseases depends, upto a large extent, on the level of awareness." A booklet on vector-borne diseases was also released at convention. It will be sent to all the Resident Welfare Associations in Delhi and NCR region to create awareness on the issue. "The high incidence of such diseases in India is a matter of great concern. Through this convention we are making an earnest attempt to bring about a constructive change in the way these issues are dealt with in this country," Swadeep Srivastava, Principal Consultant HEAL Foundation, said.
