IPHA recommends two drugs for preventing swine flu
Madurai: Indian Public Health Association
(IPHA) has recommended chloroquin (5 mg) and metazox (500 mg)
twice daily for five days as a preventive measure against the
A(H1N1) virus.

The IPHA had asked the state government officials to take
a long-term view to control the flu which had become endemic
now in the state, its official Dr Elango said here.
The official said early diagnosis and treatment was vital
to save lives. Intensified awareness programmes were a must
and people should not neglect fever.

He said the months of September, October and November are
usually critical for the state in view of the epidemiological
data/fever case statistics available with the public health
department.

The two drugs could block the entry of the virus causing
A(H1N1)flu. The association had requested the state government
to implement it on a trial basis. The drugs had been discussed
during various seminars and conferences, he said.
