`Lying still after artificial insemination increases chances of having baby`
London: Lying still for 15 minutes after
going for artificial insemination (AI) boosts a woman`s chance
of having a baby by 10 percent, a new study suggests.

AI is a medical procedure usually used to treat
infertility, by which sperm is placed into the reproductive
tract of a female to get pregnant by artificial means.
Researchers led by Inge M Custers of Centre for
Reproductive Medicine, Amsterdam, found that 27 per cent
women, who did not move for 15 minutes after the procedure,
had a baby compared with 17 percent of those, who got up and
moved around.

The research conducted in seven hospitals in the
Netherlands was done on 391 women who opted to have a baby
through intrauterine insemination or AI for various reasons.
While 199 women were not allowed to move for 15 minutes
after the insemination procedure, 192 women were allowed to do
so.

The team observed that 27 percent women, who were not
allowed to move, were able to conceive while 17 percent of
women, who were allowed to move, were successful in doing so.

The study appears in the online edition of British
Medical Journal.
