Russian docs call for awareness on cancer prevention
Moscow: With more than 4,00,000 new cases of cancer in the country every year, doctors in Russia have urged people to keep themselves informed about the risks of cancer and prevent the disease at an early stage.
According to the statistics released by the Russian Health and Social Development Ministry today to mark World Cancer Day, every year 4,60,000 new cancer cases are
registered in the country, and of them one third are diagnosed at a later stage.

The Ministry adopted a special program of medical assistance to cancer patients in 2009 and also launched a hotline to provide psychological support for people affected by the disease and their relatives.

Finding cancer early is the main task of the cancer prevention program launched in the country last year. This year twenty-two regions have joined the project. According to the Gersten Cancer Research Institute in Moscow, 290,000 Russian citizens die of cancer every year.
The World Health Organization forecasts that there will be 15 million cancer patients in the world by 2013.
