85 Himachal school principals face probe for misappropriation of funds

Principals of about 85 senior secondary schools in Himachal are facing enquiry for alleged violation of education department rules, mostly pertaining to misuse of grants and funds, with the state government asking the authorities to complete preliminary probe within 15 days.

Dharamsala: Principals of about 85 senior secondary schools in Himachal are facing enquiry for alleged violation of education department rules, mostly pertaining to misuse of grants and funds, with the state government asking the authorities to complete preliminary probe within 15 days.

According to a senior Education Department official, majority of cases pertains to misuse of funds and grants allotted to these schools.

Now the state's Additional Director, Higher Education has written a letter to the Deputy Directors, posted in different districts, to conduct preliminary enquiry in person, covering each and every point of allegations within 15 days and submit a detailed report along with supporting documents.

"Many of these principals were transferred to far flung areas by the state government to conduct free and fair probe, but majority of them got stay order from the court," he said.

The principals who are facing probe were of the Government Senior Secondary (SS) School in Sirmour, Mandi, Shimla, Una, Solan, Kangra, Bilaspur and Kullu districts.

The Additional Director, in his letter, said complaints against the principals were pending for long time despite repeated requests and instructions to the Deputy Directors in this regard.
