Burglars loot 2 ATMs in Una, Himachal Pradesh

Burglars struck at two ATMs of Punjab National Bank at twin townships of Mehatpur and Santokhgarh in Una district on Punjab border Wednesday.

Una/Shimla: Burglars struck at two ATMs of Punjab National Bank at twin townships of Mehatpur and Santokhgarh in Una district on Punjab border Wednesday.

According to police's preliminary investigations, the CCTVs installed at the PNB ATMs at Mehatpur and Santoshgarh towns revealed that two persons with their faces covered came in a white Hyundai Verna car bearing temporary registration number and broke the ATMs.

They apparently used gas-cutter to break the ATM at Mehatpur at about 3:45 AM and decamped with Rs 11,89,200.

The accused then moved towards Santoshgarh town, merely 7 kms from Mehatpur, where they struck at another ATM, broke it and fled with?Rs. 17,53,400.

Superintendent of Police Una, Anupam Sharma, informed PTI over the phone that the involvement of outsiders couldn't be ruled out as both the towns are located on Punjab border.

"It is yet to ascertain whether the accused involved at both the places were same as the CCTVs footage is blurred and the accused duo had covered their faces.

"A team of forensic experts from Dharamshala visited both the spots and cases of theft have been registered at police stations of Una and Haroli," the SP added.
