Shimla: The opposition Congress on Saturday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Himachal Pradesh government to cancel allotment of land to yoga guru Baba Ramdev in Solan district.

"The government should revoke the orders of allotment of 28 acres of land in Sadhupul village to Baba Ramdev`s Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust for setting up a herbal garden," state Congress chief Kaul Singh told reporters here.

He said that the land, valued around Rs 35-40 crore, was allotted on a 99-year lease by violating norms.

"The land was given by the Patiala royal family to the government (in 1956) for setting up the Indira Holiday Home for children. The government has violated the rules by allotting the land to Ramdev`s trust," he said.

"If the Congress comes to power in the state in the next assembly elections, it will cancel the allotment," he added.

The prime piece of land is located mid-way between Kandaghat town and the hill resort of Chail, 50 km from here.

It was given by former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh`s royal family to the then Punjab government - in 1956 areas of Himachal Pradesh were a part of Punjab.

Amarinder Singh has already asked the Himachal Pradesh government to revoke the land lease orders.
