Shimla: Intense cold wave like conditions persisted in most parts of Himachal Pradesh as mercury stayed below normal and pale sun failed to warm up the region.
Keylong and Kalpa in tribal districts of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur recorded a low of minus 14 deg Celsius and minus 8 deg C while high-altitude tribal areas groaned under biting cold wave conditions with mercury staying between minus 19 and minus 27 deg C.
Manali in Kullu district shivered at minus 5 deg C and Bhuntr recorded minimum temperature at minus 0.9 deg C while Solan and Sundernagar registered a low of 0.6 deg, followed by Una 2.2 deg, Shimla 3.6 deg, Una 5 deg and Dharamsala 5.8 deg, 3 deg C below normal.
Una was hottest in the day with maximum temperature at 21.2 deg C, followed by Sundernagar 20.4 deg, Solan 17 deg, Nahan 16.1 deg, Dharamsala 15.6 deg, Bhuntar 15.6 deg and Shimla 12.6 deg C respectively.
Kalpa and Keylong reeled under bone chilling cold even during the day with maximum temperature dipping to -2.7 deg and -2.1 deg C respectively.
The local MeT office has predicted rain or snow at isolated places in higher hills and tribal areas during next 48 hours and dry weather in rest of the state.
