Congress rejects Shimla mayor`s resignation

Shimla: After she apparently deviated
from the party line over the Bemloe issue, the Congress on Saturday sought to put curtains on the week-long drama by rejecting the
resignation of Shimla mayor Madhu Sood and asking her to
continue.

HPCC general secretary Kuldeep Singh Rathore said Sood
also met party president and Leader of Opposition in Vidhan
Sabha Vidya Stokes and other senior leaders to explain that
she resigned under `tremendous` pressure and her stand on
Bemloe Builders issue was no different from the stand taken by
the party.
Singh claimed that the Mayor, who tendered her
resignation yesterday, met him and explained her position.

Singh added there was no change in the party`s stand
for a CBI probe into the entire issue.

Sood had attacked the Shimla Commissioner for "giving
NOC to Bemloe Builders in one day and demanded his recall" but
within 48 hours, she made a U-turn, saying she was satisfied
with the Commissioner`s reply.
Her statement caused flutters in the Congress, with
all the senior leaders and councillors dissociating from her.
