Dharamsala to be air linked after eight months

The Gaggal Airport of Dharamsala will resume operations when an Air India passenger flight lands here on May 15 from Delhi.

Dharamsala: The Gaggal Airport of Dharamsala will resume operations when an Air India passenger flight lands here on May 15 from Delhi.

This will be the first routine air service to any air field of Himachal Pradesh since October last year after private operator Kingfisher discontinued its operations.

State Urban Development minister said, the news is a boost to cricket fans as there is a scheduled IPL match in Dharamsala on the next day.

"It is a very good news, efforts are being made to resume flights from other airports of the state as well," he said.

Welcoming the move, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association president Anurag Thakur said, "We are expecting a good number of fans for the match and resumption of air services will be an added advantage."

The Tibetan government in exile has also welcomed the news.
