Fresh snow freezes Shimla at 0.6 degrees

The season`s third snowfall in Shimla froze it at a minimum of 0.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Shimla had recorded 4.8 cm of snow on Wednesday evening and the minimum temperature was 2.4 degrees.

Shimla: The season`s third snowfall in Shimla in Himachal Pradesh froze the "Queen of Hills`, as Shimla was fondly called by the British, at a minimum of 0.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Shimla had recorded 4.8 cm of snow on Wednesday evening and the minimum temperature was 2.4 degrees.

Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti district, was the coldest in the state on Thursday with a minimum temperature of minus 7.1 degrees Celsius.

Kalpa, a picturesque town 250 km from the state capital, saw a temperature of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius. It has recorded 7.1 cm of snow since Wednesday.

Likewise, Bhuntar and Dharamsala towns recorded night temperatures at 3.4 degrees and 2.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

A spokesperson for the Met office said, "The western disturbances that had been active in the state since Sunday have weakened now. It would completely recede from the region by Friday."

However, he said, the western disturbances are likely to reappear by Sunday.
