Shimla: Health services were hit across
Himachal Pradesh as the doctors recruited by "Rogi Kalyan
Samities" (RKS) on contract basis went on a three-day strike
demanding regularisation of their services.

About 400 odd doctors, appointed by RKS and 63 doctors
appointed on contract basis, ignored the appeal of Health
minister Rajiv Bindal not to strike work and abstained from
duty.

Dr Sazid, spokesperson of the Association of Doctors
recruited under RKS, said that RKS and contractual doctors
planned to go on three days` casual leave to press for their
demands, but the government did not sanction them leave and
they had to go on strike.

"The government is responsible for inconvenience
being caused to the patients as it has turned a deaf ear to
our demands", he added.

He said that government has now decided to recruit
doctors on regular basis through Himachal Pradesh Public
Service Commission but it was not bothered about the doctors
already working on contractual basis.

"It is grave injustice with the contractual doctors
and they must be regularised forthwith", he added.
