Himachal: 27 die in bus accident

Shimla: At least 27 people were killed when a bus fell into a 1,000 foot deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur district, officials said Tuesday.

The accident happened Monday near Danoh, 150 km from here. As many as 25 people were injured.

A bus carrying passengers from Bilaspur to Bandla had broken down. Another bus that was coming on the same route stopped to pick up the passengers of the bus.

"Because of the darkness, the bus driver couldn't see the edge of the road. While the passengers were getting on to the bus it rolled down the hill and fell into a 1,000-foot deep gorge," Deputy Commissioner Ritesh Chauhan told reporters.

Superintendent of Police Santosh Patial said most of the victims died on the spot.

The rescue operation was still on, he added.

The government has ordered an inquiry.

much peoples hve spoiled own his life due to the road accident....so i thnk govt has to give the relactation to all them family members those hve lost in road accident......and i want to say special to the police department ...please do the investigation regarding to took the wrong decision....and arrest them......some thing else want to say head of the HRTC please give the some strictyl instructions them ......whn they are riding the bus and gathered the people in the bus...........so i request your ..please mind it .......thnqsss...me from baijnath....rght nw m persuing B-Tech ,frm jalandhar.......sanjay qureshi

The fatal accident of HRTC Bus is unfortunate. The local HRTC Administration is responsible for this blunder. They have failed to maintain buses properly. I, Sita Ram Dhiman , A Senior Leader of Bahujan Samaj Party, Himachal Pradesh , at Shimla Condoned the untimely death of the passengers died in this fatal accident. He prayed the Almighty God to give strength to the kins of deseased to bear this grief. The Government of H.P. should announce at least ten lacs as Assistance to the kins and a Govt. job to one of the family member of the deseased.
