Shimla: The Himachal High Court on Monday listed the Beas tragedy case, in which 24 students of a Hyderabad- based engineering college and a co-tour operator were washed away in the Beas river, for final disposal on December 9.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed these orders on a petition taken up suo motu by the court taking cognisance of news reports on the tragic incident.

The HC framed three points for final disposal as to what steps should be taken to prevent such incidents in future, whether the investigation was rightly concluded or otherwise and whether the parents of the students can lay a motion before the trial court in terms of CrPC Section 173(8), and whether a final award can be made by the high court in a writ petition.

Twenty-four B Tech students of VNR Vigyan Jyoti Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad and a co-tour leader were drowned in flash floods in the Beas river near Thalot on Mandi-Kullu national highway on the evening of June 8 after the Larji hydropower project authorities suddenly released water from the dam.
