Rajendra Rana, chairman of state media advisory committee and a close confidant of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, on Wednesday resigned from his post after his name cropepd up in an alleged sex scandal.

Shimla: Rajendra Rana, chairman of state
media advisory committee and a close confidant of Chief
Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, on Wednesday resigned from his post after
his name cropepd up in an alleged sex scandal.

"We have received resignation of Rana sent through fax
from Una," Vijay Chandan, Principal Private Secretary of the
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, told agency here.
He said Rana has cited "moral reasons" for taking the
step.

The opposition Congress had yesterday demanded a CBI
inquiry into reports alleging that Rana and an officer were
found with call girls recently at a posh hotel here on
Saturday night during a raid by state vigilance and
anti-corruption bureau sleuths. However, no case was
registered in the matter.

Rana, who was recently made chairman of the state
media advisory committee, had claimed he had gone to the hotel
for a family dinner and was not aware of presence of call
girls there.
"Action is contemplated against the officer, who is a
deputy director rank officer in the state Environment
department and whose name has also come up in the scandal,"
Chandan added.

The Congress had charged the BJP government with
shielding the two officials by putting pressure on the police
to hush up the matter.
