Shimla: The heat wave continued to hold sway in Himachal Pradesh, with the maximum temperature soaring up to seven degrees above normal in some places of the state.

Una in the Shivalik foothills recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 44.8 degrees Celsius.

While capital Shimla recorded a high of 30.4 degrees Celsius, over 6 degrees above normal, Sundernagar simmered at 40.8 deg C, Nahan 38.5 deg C, Bhunter 37.5 deg C, Dharamshala 37.2 deg C and Solan 36.4, four to six degrees above normal.

Mid-hill areas in the state, however, got some respite from the heat as the mercury dropped marginally due to precipitation.

Some areas also witnessed a drop in night temperatures, caused by a brief spell of light rains. Nahan recorded a night temperature of 21.0 degrees Celsius, while Una, Solan and Dharamsala showed a low of 26.6 degrees Celsius.

The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region during the next 72 hours.
