Shimla: Ban of pre-natal sex determination
test in Himachal Pradesh has led to considerable improvement
of sex ratio over the past 17 years in the state, an official
According to the state department of Health and Family
Welfare data, the sex ratio has improved from 898 females per
1000 males in 1993 to 922 females per 1000 males in 2009.
Banning of pre-natal sex determination test has prevented
female foeticide to a large extent resulting in improved sex
ratio in the state, the data said.
Campaigns launched by the government to sensitise the
common man about the imbalanced sex ratio has also helped in
improving the situation, it said.
