Irate relatives and neighbours of a woman who committed suicide forcefully entered into her in-laws` house premises here and cremated her body alleging that she was a victim of dowry death, police said today.

that she was a victim of dowry death, police said today.
Anjana, a resident of Kandror village in Bilaspur
district, was married off to Denju Rattan of Manjrot village
near Sundernagar in Mandi district.
However, she allegedly attempted suicide by setting
herself on fire, sustaining 80 per cent burn injuries. Though
she was rushed to PGI, Chandigarh, she succumbed to her
injuries last evening.
The deceased`s father lodged an FIR against the family
members of her in-laws, alleging that they used to torture her
for dowry and a case was filed.
The relatives of the deceased and locals who assembled at
her parents` house then decided to cremate her body in the
compound of her in-laws to express their "deep anger and
resentment", police said.
About 300 to 400 people accompanying the body reached her
in-laws house and forcefully cremated her body there.
Police said they have arrested the husband and other
family members of her in-laws and also registered cases
against many persons who trespassed into their house.
According to DSP Raj Kumar, a large number of policemen
were deployed at the house of accused and near-by area to
avoid any untoward incident and the ashes of body had already
been removed from the compound.
