Meira Kumar to address spl session of HP Assembly today

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar would address a special session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Monday 21, as a part of the ongoing golden jubilee celebrations of the Assembly.

The Speakers of Punjab and Haryana state assemblies and Deputy Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly are also expected to attend the special session, Himachal Assembly speaker BBL Butail had informed reporters earlier.

Sitting MLAs of Himachal Pradesh and 130 out of 170 former legislators including, three members of first assembly, Nehar Singh, Gian Singh and Gauri Shankar, would also attend the session, he said.

Himachal Assembly had celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1988. President Pranab Mukherjee had addressed the state Assembly on May 24 this year to mark the beginning of Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Butail said that many historical events are associated with Council Chamber, Housing the state Assembly, and it is all set to achieve another land mark by making all its functioning online.
The process of computerization is in progress and the Union government has sanctioned Rs 8.12 crore for online project.

He said that a book "Himachal assembly-Origin and Growth" would be released during the golden jubilee year and a "coffee table book" also be published providing interesting facts to readers.
