Monsoon hits Himachal Pradesh

 The southwest monsoon reached Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, with most of the areas of the hill state experiencing rainfall, the meteorological office here said.

Shimla: The southwest monsoon reached Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, with most of the areas of the hill state experiencing rainfall, the meteorological office here said.

"The southwest monsoon arrived in the state and the arrival is normal," Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office, told IANS.

The state will get heavy rains in the next two days.

The meteorological office has warned people not to venture into areas prone to landslides.

"There are chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas of the state till June 26 (Friday)," Singh said.

He advised tourists and locals not to move in areas vulnerable to landslides and uprooting of trees.

Last year, the rain deficiency in the state during the monsoon was 38 percent.

Agriculture is the main occupation of the people in the state, providing direct employment to 69 percent of its workforce.
