Shimla: The Queen's Baton Relay (QBR) for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games was accorded a rousing reception today as it entered Himachal Pradesh at Mehatpur neighbouring Punjab with school children waving tricolours lining up the route.

The QBR which arrived from Chandigarh was received at the border by several dignitaries including Una's Deputy Commissioner K R Bharti.

"It is a joyous moment for me to be a part of the QBR and avail the first opportunity to carry the baton to Dev Bhoomi Himachal", a member of the Indian Hockey team from Una Deepak Thakur, who carried the baton, said.

The QBR was taken in a procession to the Indira Gandhi stadium where a colourful cultural programme was also staged to mark its arrival.

Traversing through the districts of Kangra at Dharamsala, Hamipur, Bilaspur, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur during its three-day voyage, it would be finally handed over to Uttarakhand authorities on July 6.
