Shimla: Several parts of Himachal Pradesh were lashed by heavy rains on Thursday, which triggered landslides at numerous places, disrupting traffic on highways and link roads in the state.
Rains also affected normal life in the lower hills and several low-lying areas were inundated due to heavy downpour.
Traffic on Hamipur-Bilaspur Shimla road was badly disrupted due to landslides and long traffic jams at landslide points caused inconvenience to commuters.
The Leh-Manali National highway remained closed for the third day today due to damage to large stretch of road near Rani Nallah, 5 km away from Rohtang Pass.
The maximum temperatures dropped by three to four degrees due to intermittent rains and cloudy weather. Una in Shivalik foothills recorded a day temperature of 34.2 deg C, five degree below normal. Mehre in Hamirpur district was the wettest in the region with 174 mm of rains, while Amb received 92 mm, Nadauan 80 mm, Bangana 77 mm and Pachhad 51 mm, respectively.
Shimla recorded 16.4 mm of rains till this morning, but minimum temperature remained steady at 14 deg C.
Widespread rains were likely in the region as a cyclonic circulation and western disturbance persisted over Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, the MeT office said.
