Shimla: Shimla was on Tuesday colder than Keylong, which is located in Lahaul Valley at elevations ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 feet above sea level.
Manmohan Singh, Director of Shimla's meteorological department, said Keylong was warmer as it recorded no significant rainfall activity. Shimla has been getting light to moderate rains almost every day.
"Also sun radiations in Shimla are cut off by the clouds," he said, explaining the reason for the low temperature in the Himachal Pradesh capital.
Shimla, located around 7,000 feet above sea level, recorded a low of 14.8 degrees Celsius. It was 15.5 degrees in Keylong, 122 km north of the picturesque Manali.
Manali recorded the minimum temperature at 15 degrees, whereas Kalpa in Kinnaur district was the coldest in the state at 12.4 degrees.
Singh said light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places in the state. There was heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at some places including Kangra district since Monday.
Dharamsala and Palampur towns saw 207 m and 104 mm of rain respectively.
