Dharamsala (HP): The Tibetan administration will hold a two-day function beginning Friday to mark the 50th anniversary of the Dalai Lama`s arrival in the hill state in the year 1960.
To be held at Dari about three km from here, the show has
been named "Thank You Himachal Pradesh" to convey the Tibetan
spiritual leader`s sense of gratitude to the place which has
been his abode all these years, a Tibetan Government-in-Exile
spokesman said here today.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will be the Chief guest
on the first day of the celebrations whereas former CM and
Union Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh will preside over the
second day of the function to be held at Mcleodganj, he said.

In the course of his stay here, the Dalai Lama who was
forced to escape from his homeland after a failed Tibetan
uprising, set up the Government of Tibet-in-exile here besides
evolving an educational system to teach Tibetan children their
traditional language, history, religion and culture, he said.

Dharamsala is often referred to as "Little Lhasa" due to
the presence of the Dalai Lama and a sizeable Tibetan
population there.
