Puducherry: CPI(M) on Thursday demanded that the HRD Ministry immediately intervene and conduct a detailed probe into the 'chaos' in the administration of Pondicherry University, a Central government undertaking.
The party's local unit secretary V Perumal said in a release here alleged that the University Vice Chancellor had been acting arbitrarily without adhering to procedures and statutory norms.
This was evident by the University's recent decision to repatriate the Registrar even before his three year deputation period ended, he said.
The decision to relieve the incumbent of the post of Registrar was indicative of the 'victimisation of the VC against the official, he said, adding this action had resulted in unrest among the faculty and also students.
Perumal said the University had not responded to the plea to earmark 25 percent of the total seats in each discipline for students of the Union Territory.
He demanded that the HRD Ministry intervene and conduct a probe into the violation of procedures by the Vice Chancellor so that the University would regain normalcy and carry out its academic activities in a smooth manner.
