Sania, Bopanna advance to QF in mixed doubles

Sania Mirza and her partner Rohan Bopanna scored a straight set victory over Martin Damm and Renata Voracova to advance to the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon mixed doubles event.

London: Sania Mirza and her partner Rohan Bopanna scored a straight set victory over Martin Damm and Renata Voracova to enter quarterfinals of the Wimbledon mixed doubles event. The Indian duo defeated the Czech pair 6-3, 6-0 in the third round on Thursday. They will next face the winner of the other third round match between 15th seed Andy Ram and Meghann Shaughnessy and unseeded pair of Paul Hanley and Su-Wei Hsieh. Sania, along with her Russian partner Elena Vesnina, had reached the women`s doubles semifinal for the first time in her career on Wednesday.Earlier, in mixed doubles, Sania and Bopanna registered a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Jamie Murray of Great Britain and Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia in the second round. After winning the first set in tie-break, the Indian duo broke their opponents in the second game of the second set to take a 3-0 lead. Sania and Bopanna were then up 5-2 before breaking their opponents` serve once again to take the second set 6-2 and seal a place in the third round.
