28 special trains to meet Holi rush

Gearing up to tackle the Holi and summer rush, Northern Railway has firmed up an action plan to press into service 28 special trains and also to ensure smooth functioning of reservation counters to cater the heavy demand.

New Delhi: Gearing up to tackle the Holi and summer rush, Northern Railway has firmed up an action plan to press into service 28 special trains and also to ensure smooth functioning of reservation counters to cater the heavy demand.

Arrangements have also been made for adequate passenger amenities and also to check the malpractices in reservation offices, a senior Northern Railway official said.

He said 28 pairs of special trains were being pressed into service since beginning of the month as per requirement on the basis of trend of passenger rush during previous years.

Holi special trains includes six premium trains for Darbhanga, Barauni, Allahahabd, Mumbai and Gorakhpur; two Jansadharan trains between Delhi and Udhampur, and Mumbai and Gorakhpur and 20 Mail/Express for Varanasi, Udhampur, Barauni, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Darbhanga, Malda Town, Kamakhya, Kota, Mumbai and other busy routes from March 1 to March 13.

The official said Railway staff shall be posted near windows outside the reservation counters at all locations of the reservation offices during the period to put a check on touts.

Trains enquiry system and announcement system will be monitored during festival period and ticketing system updated on all train running position, he added.

It is being ensured that all booking and enquiry counters are being manned during the peak hours, the official said.

Additional counters for reservations would be opened at the locations wherever it is necessary for the convenience of passengers, he said.
