A series of postage stamps on India's rich biodiversity soon!

The Union Minister noted that the postal department will also release stamps on freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev as well as classical singers.

New Delhi: A series of postage stamps on the rich biodiversity of the country will be released soon to educate the people about the different species of flora and fauna, Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Thursday.

The minister was speaking after releasing a commemorative postage stamp to mark the centenary year of Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) here.

"These are old organizations of the country which have laid the foundation stone of modern India. This stamp was released to remember the contribution of hundreds of scientists working in this field," he said.

Prasad said that his ministry was focusing on use of Information and Technology in spreading awareness about the extent of biodiversity found in the country.

"Climate conservation cannot become possible unless biodiversity is made part of it," he said.

Highlighting the importance of mobile and internet, Prasad had earlier said that by December, India will have 40 crore internet users, overtaking US, and will be second only to China.

In the global telephone subscriber base of 102 crore, India has 98 crore mobile users, he said.

The Union Minister noted that the postal department will also release stamps on freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev as well as classical singers.
