London: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Imran Khan, a teacher in Rajasthan's Alwar district, as the real agent of change during his speech at the Wembley Stadium in London, BSNL has come forward to help him with free internet.

“There is one Imran Khan in Alwar who made 50 apps to help students' education. My India resides in people like him,” the PM had said.

Following Modi's kind words for Khan, Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday asked the BSNL to contact Khan and provide him necessary support.

"Prime Minister mentioned Imran as a true Indian who developed many mobile apps for free use by students.

“Today, I asked BSNL to contact Imran Khan. General Manager BSNL, Alwar met him and gave him a bouquet. I spoke to Imran on phone and congratulated him on his achievement and contributions to the society,” Prasad said in a statement.

“Individuals like him are the true vehicles of transformation and we will extend all possible support to them. I am happy that BSNL has decided to provide free internet to Imran Khan,” the telecom minister said.

Imran Khan, a 34-year-old mathematics teacher, is credited for making 52 education apps for free, which said to have helped lakhs of students in the state.

"It was a small step taken by me as a teacher. It is a big thing for me that our Prime Minister has praised me," Khan said.

He insisted that “Softwares should be provided in the regional languages if we want to spread the Digital Indian Mission to the rural areas as well.”
