New Delhi: BJP presdient Amit Shah on Tuesday congratulated the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA govt for accepting the recommendations of the 14th Financial Commission which will provide more share of Central taxes to states and make them help financially independent.

Shah said the steps enhancing the tax share of states from 32 per cent to 42 per cent will help states become financially independent and less dependednt on the Centre for initiating developmental work.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has risen above partisan politics and taken steps for the welfare of the poor and overall progress of the country. The biggest example of this is the NDA govt's decision to accept the recommendations of the 14th Financial Commission," Shah said in a statement.

He added that Modi has tried to build Team India by taking everyone along. He also cited the example of setting up of Niti Aayog where the states and the Centre would work together for policy making and country's progress.

He also cited the example of coal block auction which has brought in Rs 1.25 lakh crore, much of which will go to poor states like West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chattisgarh, which have these coal blocks.
