Ashok Prasad appointed as Secretary in Home Ministry

Senior IPS officer Ashok Prasad has been appointed as Secretary of Home Ministry's crucial Internal Security division.

New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Ashok Prasad has been appointed as Secretary of Home Ministry's crucial Internal Security division.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal for re-designation of the post held by Prasad as Secretary (Internal Security), as a measure personal to him, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training said.

Prasad is a 1979 batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. He was appointed as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in Home Ministry on December 31, 2014. Prior to that, Prasad was posted as Special Director in Intelligence Bureau.

He will have tenure till his superannuation ie January 31, 2016.

The Internal Security division deals with police, law and order and rehabilitation besides analysing threats emerging from terror, Maoists and other anti-national groups.
