New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday backed the Allahabad High Court's decision to rule out religious conversion of girls for the sake of marriage.
"Law is sacrosanct. Whatever law is, it has to be followed. And if the Allahabad High Court has made a judgement as far as conversion is concerned, I believe we all have to follow it," said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.
The Allahabad High Court had earlier on Friday said that religious conversion for the sake of marriage is invalid. The Allahabad High Court had stated that religious conversion of girls 'without their faith and belief in Islam' and 'solely for the purpose of marriage' to Muslim boys is not valid.
