New Delhi: Discussing BJP-led NDA government's two years in office, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday claimed that India's image has improved internationally ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken over the charge.
In an exclusive interview to Zee News Editor Sudhir Chowdhary, Singh said that considering the government's current performance, BJP will improve its tally in 2019 General Elections.
“As per some surveys conducted recently, BJP will get more seats than 2014, if elections are held today,” he added.
The minister also said that the party will field a prominent face in upcoming UP Assembly elections as its chief ministerial candidate.
“People are disappointed with Samajwadi Party in UP. They want change. There is no dearth of faces in BJP for UP. We will field a known face,” he said.
Further, speaking on government's policy on Pakistan, he said, “We tried reaching out to Pakistan, but they retracted. During Pathankot attack probe, it was decided in advance that JIT will come to India and NIA will got to Pakistan. But, Pakistan broke the agreement.”
On the entire controversy around Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Singh said that the BJP will not tolerate any attempt to break the country.
“Delhi Police took appropriate action. Even if the whole world supports those talking ill of India, our party will not tolerate any attempt to break the country,” he said.
When asked if Uttarakhand crisis backfired BJP, he said, “Uttarakhand crisis is Congress' internal matter, BJP has nothing to do with it. President's Rule was imposed only after a report was sent by the Governor, demanding action.”
Rebutting claims that all is not well between PDP and BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, he said, “We have no reason to not trust PDP. PDP-BJP alliance in J&K will together develop the state.”
However, on Ishrat Jahan case the minister refused to comment.
“We suspect something wrong in Ishrat Jahan case. Investigation is going on. I can't comment on it as of now,” he said.
