Chennai floods: Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav to donate 1st month's salary to relief fund

Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad's younger son and Bihar's deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday came forward to offer financial aid to flood victims of Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

"I have decided to donate my 1st month's salary to relief fund for Chennai flood victims," Tejashwi Yadav said.

Life in the Tamil Nadu capital was virtually crippled on Wednesday as fresh downpour worsened an already disastrous flood situation, posing danger to thousands in low-lying areas.

Soldiers joined the rescue and relief work and rescued 65 men and women till Wednesday afternoon, officials said, adding that more troops were on their way to Chennai from Bengaluru.

Lalu Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav was appointed deputy chief minister of Bihar earlier this month and was given charges of three portfolios in the newly formed Bihar cabinet.
