Chidambaram gave clean chit to Ishrat under ''severe pressure'': Rijiju

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said former home minister P Chidambaram, who is a `seasoned and experienced politician`, must have given a clean chit to Ishrat Jahan under severe pressure.

New Delhi: Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said former home minister P Chidambaram, who is a `seasoned and experienced politician`, must have given a clean chit to Ishrat Jahan under severe pressure.

"Chidamabram ji is very seasoned, very learned and a very experienced politician and a very effective home minister, but why he made a particular point where the credibility is under doubt.

I personally feel that Chidambaram ji may not take this kind of decision on his own where a terrorist is given a clean chit, he must have been under severe pressure from elsewhere. I feel that this must have been done under immense pressure," Rijiju told the media outside Parliament.

"My question is why a Home Minister should give a clean chit to a terrorist. All the intelligence report showed that Ishrat Jahan was a LeT aid, but (the then) Home Minister Chidambaram went a step ahead and went on to declare that there was no conclusive proof against her," he added.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today told the Lok Sabha that many documents related to the preparation of the ministry`s second affidavit in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case are missing and added that an internal inquiry has been ordered into the same.Replying to a motion on change in the Ishrat case affidavit filed in the Gujarat High Court on September 29, 2009, he said the ministry is conducting an internal inquiry on missing documents from the Ishrat affidavit file.

"Further course of action will be decided later," he added while stating that two letters written by then home secretary (G.K. Pillai) to the Attorney General are not traceable.Singh further said the draft of the second affidavit that came from the Attorney General in which the then home minister (P Chidambaram) made the changes is also missing.
