A Chinese company has allegedly disgraced the Indian national flag by packing shoes in boxes bearing the tri-colour.

Dharamshala: A Chinese company has allegedly disgraced the Indian national flag by packing shoes in boxes bearing the tri-colour.

The incident came to light when a local newspaper reported the disgraceful act taking place in a shop in Kangra district.

Police swung immediately into action and arrested the shopkeeper. An investigation is underway.

Additional Superintendent Police, Kangra, Shiv Kumar, said that a ban has been imposed on the sale of such shoes.

"The investigation is underway. We took immediate action under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act. We have arrested a person involved in the matter. Some shoe boxes have also been confiscated," Kumar said.

"Prima facie it was found that 'Made in China' was written on shoes and investigation is on in every aspect," he added.

The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 prohibits desecration of or insult to the country's national symbols, including the National Flag, Constitution, and the National Anthem. Any person found guilty of the Act shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.
