Guwahati: To boost enrollment of students and cut dropout rate in schools, the Assam government will provide free text books to students of Class 9 and 10 from the 2017-18 academic year.
Free text books will be available to students by December 25 this year as the new sessions will start from January 1, IANS reported.
"The target group of the scheme is all the students studying in class 9 and 10 irrespective of income of parents.
“The scheme will cover all the government High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools," the report said quoting a senior official.
"As per the notification issued by the Secondary Education Department, the Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Ltd will be the agency entrusted for printing and distribution of free text books," he said.
