New Delhi: The Indian National Congress is celebrating the 131st foundation day of the party on Monday.

As per reports, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi unfurled the party flag at All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters this morning and inaugurated a series of events to mark the occasion.

Senior party leaders including vice-president Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Sheila Dikshit and spokesperson Manish Tewari were present on the occasion at the AICC office at 24, Akbar Road.

 

The Congress party HQ was decked up for the occasion and massive security arrangements were put in place.

Founded on December 28, 1885, the Congress held its first session on this day in Mumbai. It was attended by 72 delegates.

Meanwhile, the state units of the Congress will also celebrate the party's foundation day today with a series of events during which floral tributes will be paid to the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and other Congress stalwarts.
