Congress targets Government over Land Ordinance Bill

Congress leader Anand Sharma on Sunday lashed out at the BJP-led government over the Land Ordinance Bill, saying the Centre is not sensitive about the woes of farmers.

New Delhi: Congress leader Anand Sharma on Sunday lashed out at the BJP-led government over the Land Ordinance Bill, saying the Centre is not sensitive about the woes of farmers.

"Famers are in distress and the exports have also experienced loss. We already feel that the situation is grim enough but the government is not being sensitive about the issue which is of national interest. We will definitely bring this in the Parliament," said Sharma.

"After the previous Winter Session, the BJP government has been bringing ordinances. It has embarked on the ordinance route to legislate and, therefore, there has to be a parliamentary scrutiny. None of the ordinances are of national interest and in favour of the people. Therefore, it is the duty of the opposition to oppose this anti-people move," he added.

Earlier in the day, veteran social activist Anna Hazare called for the Land Ordinance Bill to be taken back.

Hazare, who will be holding a protest at Jantar Mantar against the recent amendments in the Land Acquisition Act by the Centre, said that the government should instead look out for ways to improve the condition of the farmers.
