Decision to prorogue Rajya Sabha a poor attempt at unilateralism: Congress

New Delhi: Congress on Friday night reacted sharply over the decision to prematurely prorogue the Rajya Sabha dubbing it as a "poor attempt at unilateralism" and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "bulldozing" the controversial Land bill.

"It arises out of Prime Minister's compulsive bulldozing style of pushing through land acquisition ordinance despite all round opposition to help a few crony capitalists", AICC communication department in charge Randeep Surjewala said.

He said Modi government's decision is "a poor attempt at unilateralism and undermine Parliamentary democracy".

The Congress' reaction came close on the heels of the government, battling strident opposition to the Land bill in Rajya Sabha where it lacks numbers, deciding to prorogue the Upper House of Parliament and repromulgate the Land Ordinance, which lapses on April 5.
