New Delhi: As the Parliament debates Jawaharlal Nehru University row, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kirren Rijiju, Thursday, defended Delhi Police saying, the force acted as per law in anti-national and anti-constitutional incidents in the JNU.
Putting his weight behind the Delhi Police, Rijiju said that incidents which happened during last few days were handled by the police in a professional manner.
“I’m not in agreement that law and order situation in Delhi has deteriorated during recent past,” the Union Minister further said.
Delhi Police have been receiving flak over Patiala House Court complex violence and the arrest of JNU students Kanhaiya Kumar.
Delhi Police on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar had not only participated in the event where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised in the JNU campus but had "actually organised" the programme. In its 13-page status report filed before Justice Pratibha Rani, the police claimed that besides Kanahiya and other accused persons, some "foreign elements" were also present during the event.
