Every state must ban booze: Sharad Yadav

Janata Dal (U) chief Sharad Yadav on Friday welcomed Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's announcement to ban alcohol from April 1, 2016.

New Delhi: Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav on Friday welcomed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's announcement to ban alcohol from April 1, 2016 and said that all the state governments must follow the same.

"During the elections, I said and the Chief Minister also said that we would ban alcohol. We did what we had said. I welcome the decision taken by the Bihar Government and I think every state should follow it. It is ruining the youth of our country," he said.

Bihar Chief Minister said that liquor would be banned in the state from April 1 next year, making the first major announcement since he was sworn in as chief minister for the fifth time last week.

Keeping his promise to a group of women at an event months ago of banning liquor, Kumar said:

"Women in the state started an anti-liquor campaign, I really appreciate that. If people in villages will help us in our campaign against liquor, they will be awarded. I know people will say that even after banning liquor, it will be sold illegally, but if it happens then we will deal with that strongly."
