Farmers donate blood for Nepal quake victims

Despite facing severe hardships after crop loss due to unseasonal rains, about 175 farmers in the district have donated blood for those affected in quake-hit Nepal.

Barabanki (UP): Despite facing severe hardships after crop loss due to unseasonal rains, about 175 farmers in the district have donated blood for those affected in quake-hit Nepal.

"During a blood donation camp at the district hospital on May 1 and 2, over 300 farmers had come to give their blood and of them 175 donated blood," Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Sarvesh Saxena said here.

The blood would be sent to Nepal for those injured in the earthquake, he said.

The farmers had come to donate their blood under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), upholding their slogan of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'.

"While our jawans are working hard in Nepal to save lives, our farmers are also with them and by donating blood they have proved it," BKU leader Mukesh Singh said.
